The idea of traces and the carrying-over of information is explored through the sculptural work Building Block. This instance incorporates early experiments with clay which formed the foundation of the artist’s sculptural practice, and reflects on the way in which previous actions and encounters set parameters for future becomings.
As a literal ‘building block’, this work is also designed to be continually re-created and exhibited in different combinations and compositions. As such, it exists in a state of perpetual potential. The taxidermy bird within the work represents the role of mutation and openness within creative and biological evolution.
