The Contamination of Alice, refers collectively to a series of individual works originally inspired by the experience of the artist’s Saos-2 cell cultures becoming contaminated by a fungus while working in the laboratory at IHBI in 2009.
The latest instance within the series, commissioned for Experimenta Recharge connects to origins of the Saos-2 cell line, laboratory experiences and notions of becoming, transformation and the interconnections between organism and environment.
The Contamination of Alice was developed in a creative partnership between the Creative Industries Faculty (CIF) and The Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation (IHBI) at QUT. The custom projection system and Agar housing components were developed in collaboration with microelectronics engineer Michael Maggs. Sound design was developed in collaboration with Carly Dickenson (Anise). Thank you.
