Limited Self-Portrait Expressed in a Hierarchy of 6 Kingdoms

Limited Self-Portrait Expressed in a Hierarchy of 6 Kingdoms is an artwork by Svenja Kratz that deconstructs the concept of selfhood across biological categories. The piece maps her identity across six biological kingdoms: Animalia, Plantae, Fungi, Eubacteria, Archaebacteria, and Protista, using elements such as fibroid cells and bacteria. By fragmenting the self into these diverse forms, Kratz challenges the traditional notion of a unified identity, emphasising instead an ecological framework of interdependence. This work questions the boundaries of the human subject, locating identity within a complex web of biological relationships that reflect both individual and collective existence.
