A TURTLE FONDLY IN IMAGINARY WORLDS AND THE DESIRE FOR CERTAINTY AND CONTROL

Mixed Media

A Turtle Fondly in Imaginary Worlds and the Desire for Certainty and Control consists of an antique taxidermy turtle with a glass vessel on its back containing a living bonsai tree. The work references the common mytheme of the World Turtle, commenting on the way in which humans create different narratives to explain the world from ancient mythologies to contemporary scientific discourses.  The bonsai tree represents the earth, but is also used as a symbol of the human impulse to control and shape the world to suit particular desires.
